2016

Neighbors, friends and family came together on Saturday, October 1 for the 1st Annual Matt Mayo Cornhole Tournament to honor the life and memory of our dear friend Matt Mayo, son of Sam and Suzanne Mayo and brother of Jessica Edwards.  Our goal was to raise money to provide a scholarship in Matt’s name to a graduating senior at Matt’s high school, Wilson Hunt.  What resulted was something none of us could have ever imagined.  Through the boundless compassion and selfless giving of so many, in excess of $26.000 was raised!!!  That’s right, over $26,000!!  Say that slowly and let it sink it – twenty-six thousand dollars.  Simply unbelieveable.  Awe-inspiring.  Extraordinary.  Humbling.  What a tremendous tribute too Matt’s precious life and his wonderful family.

There are so, so many people to thank – not just a handshake thank you, but a bear hug thank you.  Neighbors, friends and family came together to offer their valuable time, their money, and their desire to do whatever possible to make the event a success.  And what a day it was.  There was the cornhole tournament won by Brooks and Blake Walston, but there was also delicious barbecue, tasty snacks, on-time music, a rousing raffle – and an unplanned auction broke out!  A great time was had by all.  So, the Mayo family says thank you, thank you, thank you to each and every one of you who helped make the day such a success in remembering Matt and funding this scholarship in his memory.  We are fortunate to be part of such a compassionate and supportive community.
