Matt’s Story

MMCT DAY (2)
On October 18, 2015, the world lost an amazing young man named Matt Mayo who was smart, quick-witted, good-hearted, and filled with life. Matt was a sophomore at East Carolina University and just beginning to realize his significant potential as a young man. He aspired to be an engineer and would have made a top flight one, no doubt! Matt was a wonderful son, loving brother, and a loyal and caring friend. He meant so much to so many people. Matt’s untimely passing leaves an unfathomable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. But as much as Matt loved life, he would want his family and friends to approach life the way he would – celebrate it and do something good! And this is what we choose to do – celebrate the impactful life of Matt Mayo and to do something good with it!

Matt loved to play cornhole and he loved the beach so doing something Matt enjoyed himself at the beach is a fitting way to perpetuate his memory.

All of the proceeds from this cornhole tournament will go towards creating a Matt Mayo Scholarship at Hunt High School in Wilson, NC – Matt’s alma mater – for a graduating senior and other graduating seniors in the area. Our goal is to use our loving memory of Matt to help others who aspire to pursue a college education.
